Persons with disabilities who hold a National/European disability card marked with eligibility for rail travel are entitled to free transportation based on an HŽ Putnički prijevoz smart card.
To obtain the smart card, the following is required:
Passengers who already have a smart card do not need a new one. With the required documentation, a new profile will be added to the existing card. The €2.65 fee for the profile/annual ticket for the entire year 2026 is paid at the ticket office. New profiles can be created at ticket offices from 31 December 2025.
During travel, passengers must carry both their smart card and their National/European disability card marked with rail travel eligibility.
Applications for issuing a smart card may be submitted at ticket offices or by mail besplatno.osi@hzpp.hr.
If submitting the application by email, a proof of payment of €2.65 must also be sent to IBAN HR9523400091510252920. The payment purpose must state “Free travel for persons with disabilities” along with the passenger’s name and surname, model HR00. Under “reference number,” the date of payment must be entered. You will then be notified where to collect the smart card.
The smart card is issued within 7 days from submission of the application and is collected at the ticket office where the application was submitted.
If you would like the smart card to be sent by post, an additional €2.10 postage fee must be paid. Proof of payment to IBAN HR9523400091510252920 (model HR00, reference number: date of payment) must be emailed to mail besplatno.osi@hzpp.hr.
The transitional period for obtaining the smart card/annual ticket lasts until 31 January 2026. Until then, passengers may exercise the right to free travel using their National/European disability card marked with rail travel eligibility.
