A pilot-project is starting on 11 October, introducing night trains from Zagreb to Dugo Selo, Zaprešić, Zabok, Krapina, Jastrebarsko, Karlovac, Velika Gorica, Sisak, Ivanić-Grad and Križevci, which will run on Saturdays and Sundays in the early morning hours. 

The aim of this pilot project is to increase the mobility of citizens, especially students, who stay in Zagreb on weekends for cultural, social and sports events. This would ensure their safe return in the early morning hours, as well as make a significant step towards safer, more accessible and sustainable public transport. 

We would like to remind that, based on the Decision of the Government of the Republic of Croatia, the project of free transportation for full-time students was introduced on 1 January 2025. The project includes an unlimited number of train trips from the place of residence to the place of study and occasional trips in the territory of the Republic of Croatia, and its implementation encourages the use of railway transport. As of 1 January 2025, around 23,800 full-time students are using train transport.

Part-time students can use the offer “Student card is worth more”, which grants them a 50% discount on an unlimited number of one-way and return trips. 

Children, pupils, pensioners and people over 65 years of age are also entitled to free transport. HŽP has continuously recorded an increase in the number of passengers. In 2024, 24.6 million passengers were transported, and in 2025, more than 26 million passengers are expected. In addition to free transport projects, the continuous procurement of new trains also contributes to the increase in the number of passengers. There are currently 69 new low-floor trains in operation, and by the end of 2028, another 20 new trains will be put into service.
