On September 8, 2025, a meeting was held at the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure regarding the newly launched initiative to introduce night suburban trains connecting the City of Zagreb with surrounding urban areas.
The meeting was attended by Žarko Tušek, State Secretary of the Ministry; Jasna Divić, Director of the Directorate for Railway Infrastructure and Transport at the Ministry; Željko Ukić, President of the Management Board of HŽ Passenger Transport; Tomislav Josip Mlinarić, Vice-Rector of the University of Zagreb; as well as representatives of the Student Council, Ivona Josipović and Infrastructure and Development Coordinator Robert Jurčec.
During the meeting, a consensus was reached recognizing the need to introduce new night suburban train lines across the wider Zagreb area.
Following the agreement, the next period will involve activities aimed at developing a detailed pilot project to introduce new or additional night train lines to and from Zagreb, primarily intended for students, young people, and other citizens from the counties of Zagreb, Krapina-Zagorje, Sisak-Moslavina, Koprivnica-Križevci, and Karlovac.
The goal of this pilot project is to enhance the mobility of citizens who spend weekends in Zagreb attending cultural, social, and sports events, ensuring a safe return in the early morning hours. It also aims to make a significant step toward safer, more accessible, and more sustainable public transport.
